Reflexology is a safe, non-invasive, holistic treatment involving compression massage to reflex areas on the feet or hands, that correlate to all glands, organs, parts and systems of the body. The physical act of applying pressure using thumb, finger and hand techniques to these reflex areas results in the reduction of stress which in turn, promotes physiological changes in the body. During the session, the client remains fully clothed and removes only their shoes and socks.
Reflexology’s primary goal is to help release tension from the body. It has been estimated that 75% of visits to primary care doctors are for stress-related problems. Reflexology releases stress and helps our body return to its natural state of optimum health.
Some of the benefits of reflexology may also include:
Reflexology is not intended to diagnose medical conditions or replace the care of a doctor.
During this stressful time as we are sheltering in place, I have found it helpful to give myself mini-hand reflexology sessions and I hope you will as well. The best hand reflexology videos I have found are on YouTube from David Wayte, who was the first Reflexologist in the UK to be made a member of the Royal Society of Medicine and runs his own Complementary Therapy Clinic in Derbyshire, UK.
This Calming and Relaxing Hand Reflexology video is only 15 minutes and you can practice on yourself by following along with the video.
I also recommend his 16 minute video on Hand Reflexology for Balancing Hormones and Help for Depression
I find David's voice and teaching style to be very calming. I hope you find these videos helpful to practice hand reflexology on yourself or your loved ones!
